Cheryl and Kevin’s wedding took place in the beautiful St. Mary’s Church in Hollidaysburg, PA. They had a traditional catholic ceremony, and the church was an amazing backdrop for them to become husband and wife. Since we were so close to historic Highland Hall, I thought it would be nice to do their portraits there before the construction crews made it impossible.
Every couple has a story to tell, and every story is different from the last. Cheryl and Kevin are proud doggie parents to an amazing doggie son Winston, who just might be the cutest dog I have ever seen. He is a great dane, he is huge and he has no concept of this at ALL! If we were to ask Winston, I am sure he would verify that he is in fact a little baby lap dog! Another thing that made this day unique? The force was strong with this couple. I felt it in our first meeting, with Kevin, especially. I do not hide that I am super amazing and LOVE Star Wars, so when I found out Kevin (and Cheryl to a degree) were also one with the force, I knew I had something special with them! LOL! So, not only did we get to see them have a light saber battle at the engagement session, but yep, you’ve guessed it, they brought all their Jedi/Sith battle weapons to the wedding too!
Cheryl was such a thoughtful, sweet, beautiful bride, she really did think of every little detail. She even had lunch for us before the ceremony. VIP bride right there! Thank you so much to Cheryl, Kevin and their truly sweet families who treated us so well, it was an honor to capture this event for you all, especially Cheryl and Kevin. Let’s take a look at their special day!
I absolutely adored the gift Cheryl gave to Kevin’s mom before the ceremony.
And lets not forget all those little details…
What a beautiful family! Like I said earlier, Cheryl thought of EVERYTING, down to the doggie’s cuff links! LOL *SWOON*
Highland Hall was constructed in 1840, it was designed by Samuel Sloan, an architect from Philadelphia, PA. Over the years it has served as a girl’s school, a radio school during World War II, and a school for the Franciscan Order of the Roman Catholic Church. It has been vacant for over a decade, and makes for a beautiful backdrop in pictures. Unfortunately, you can no longer get close to Highland Hall, because there are construction crews there, and the whole lot is fenced in. Sadly, these will be the last wedding photos I get to take at this wonderful and historic location, but I am very glad I got to take a couple as beautiful as these two, to the last session I will ever have here. Cheryl and Kevin are the natural focus of their portraits, as they bring a touch of elegance to a run down, barren property. I want to thank the Altoona Mirror for these facts, which I got from their article. If you want to read the article or learn more about Highland Hall, it is a good read. And as we know, a blog post is that much sweeter with a stunning ring shot. This shot has not been photoshopped in any way, it is 100% straight out of camera. Can anyone guess what it is sitting on to get this effect?!
Since I never post pictures of me at events in a blog post, I figured I would share one that my lovely assistant got at the reception. Loving the Dancing DJ’s in the background of the first one! They are great! We make a fantastic team, I love when we get to work together!
From my assistant’s perspective…
And from my perspective….
And aren’t they adorable?!?!
The UVA Club in Altoona was a fantastic local wedding venue. It comfortably accommodated their large guest list, and the dance floor was HUGE! The food was great, if you are looking for a local venue, please consider them! Of course, what wedding reception is complete without some techno music and a light saber battle between the bride and groom?!
I would like to personally thank all of the people who helped bring Cheryl and Kevin’s wedding day to life. A special thank you to my wonderful bride and groom, Cheryl and Kevin, we are so blessed you chose us to capture your special day, and we loved sharing the journey with you. I look forward to seeing you again, congratulations and yes I have to add one more Star Wars reference, I can’t help it you know it has to be done…ok here we go…
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!
