The woods of Pennsylvania are hard to beat when it comes to natural beauty. They make the absolute perfect backdrop for an engagement session! Abby and Ryan drove the whole way from Dubois to have these done, and I am sure glad they did. We had so much fun! Abby asked me what she should wear for the session, I loved this! I am always so happy to give direction with style choices, hair and makeup advice and anything else a client needs. Ladies, always remember this, the nicer you get yourself done up, the nicer your photos will be. I know this sounds simple, but it is so true. If Abby and Ryan had been wearing jeans for example, these pictures would have a completely different tone and feel to them. It would have been more casual and country. Not that there is anything wrong with casual and country, but that is not the look they were going for! Since Abby decided to dress to impress, it instantly added some elegance and class to an otherwise not so classy place, which made her the focal point, and points your eye to the natural beauty you should be focused on in the photos…HER!
Abby asked me as we were walking to this spot “how on earth did you find this place?!” I actually get asked how I choose the locations for my shoots all the time. So let me answer that here: I like to give my clients their own experience and not shoot the same location 500 times, I am a sucker for originality. So I do what any true professional does, and I go out and I search…no really. I mean full fledge Indiana Jones meets CSI search for the best spots and the places where I love the lighting. I also base where I take my clients on their personality and preferences. If I feel they can handle my adventure photography, then trust me, it is NOT boring! For Abby and Ryan’s shoot, I knew they were adventurous and didn’t mind the woods. In fact you can ask Abby how I almost rolled down a giant hill for her during this session 🙂 I will say this, Abby can climb up hills better in a dress than I did wearing yoga pants. *Note to self, do not go hiking in Croc’s! Sorry Croc’s, I love you, but the next time I decide to be Dora the Explorer, you will be staying at home!
If I do end up shooting at the same location more than once, and believe me I have, I try to make sure to put a unique perspective on it, so they don’t look like the same photo with different people in them. I absolutely try my hardest to make sure each couple has a photo experience as unique as their love story. In conclusion, photography is like music and movies to me…allow me to explain…If you plan on doing a reboot of a 1980’s classic movie, or you plan on singing a hit song, there is one thing you MUST do, you must be better than the original. The same principal applies to photography.
Without further ado, please enjoy Abby and Ryan’s engagement session in the beautiful woods of Altoona, PA. As always, feel free to share this post!
